14 days itinerary combining Kilimanjaro's Machame Route, a safari, and Zanzibar's beautiful beaches would offer a diverse and exciting adventure in Tanzania
On arrival in Tanzania, you will meet and greet your EXPLORE AFRICA EXPEDITION guide or driver, who will pick you up and transfer you from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to your lodge in Arusha.
The ascent starts at Machame Gate (1830m), where we go through the lush lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. As you steadily gain height and take in the diverse fauna of the rain forest, you will arrive at the first Machame camp, which is situated at 3000m above sea level.
A shorter day climbing up a steep ridge to reach a small semicircular cliff known as a picnic site, and continue up a gentler ascent through the lower alpine moorland, which is known for beautiful wild alpine flowers. The most spectacular views of the Kibo peak can be seen from Shira Camp.
Today we walk on a gentle ascent and panoramic views. We traverse the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, passing underneath the Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach and after hot lunch the bottom of the Lava Tower (4,600 m.) we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco valley (3,900 m.).
After a long climb up the eastern slope, we arrive to the region just below the Heim Glacier, where we may be given to breath-taking views of Kilimanjaro. After a quick break for a delicious lunch, we begin a difficult ascent out of Karanga before continuing on to Barafu Camp over a smooth road on compacted scree with panoramic views of the surrounding dry, desolate landscape. One can see Kibo and Mawenzi's two summits from Barafu Camp.
Summit day! Begin the ascent in the early morning hours, typically around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and descend to Mweka Camp.
A gentle walk takes us down through the rainforest to Mweka gate successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. After lunch, we drive back to Arusha.
We depart from your lodge in Arusha and proceed to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is known for its vast herds of elephants. It is estimated that there are over 2,500 elephants in the park. We enjoy an outdoor lunch overlooking the bluff and viewing Tarangire’s plains. After the game drive, we drive and stay overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel.
Today, we will make our way down to Ngorongoro Crater for your crater tour. Here, we'll look into the woodlands, which are home to elephants and monkeys, as well as the lake area and any potential flamingo populations. In the vast savannah, we'll also see the lions' hunting sites. A picnic lunch will be served in the crater for lunch. In the late afternoon, we make a little journey to Karatu.
We depart from your lodge in Karatu and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is famous for its tree-climbing lions, flamingos, and breathtaking Rift Valley scenery.
Enjoy a game drive in the park and stop for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we drive back to Arusha.
We will drive you from your hotel in Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where you will fly via Precision Air to Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) in the early afternoon. Once in Zanzibar, we will transfer you from the airport to your lodge where you will spend the night.
The lodge can arrange for various tours and activities such as snorkeling, fishing, spice tour, the tour of Stone Town, boating, and more. Breakfast is included.
We will transfer you from the hotel to the airport (ZNZ) where you will fly back home
