Trekking Mount Meru is a popular adventure activity in Tanzania. Mount Meru is located in the Arusha National Park and is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, standing at 4,565 meters (14,977 feet) above sea level. The trek usually takes around 4 days to complete, and here's a general itinerary for a Mount Meru trek.
Start your trek by driving from Arusha to Momela Gate, the starting point of the Mount Meru trek. Complete the necessary registration and meet your guide and porters.
Begin your trek through the rainforest, enjoying the lush greenery and diverse wildlife. Reach Miriakamba Hut (2,514 meters/8,250 feet) and spend the night there.
After breakfast, continue your trek through the forest, which gradually turns into heather and moorland. Reach Saddle Hut (3,570 meters/11,712 feet), situated between the Little Meru and Mount Meru peaks.
Spend the night at Saddle Hut, acclimatizing to the higher altitude.
Start your ascent to the summit of Mount Meru in the early hours of the morning, usually around midnight. The trail becomes steep and rocky as you approach the summit.
Reach the summit, Socialist Peak (4,565 meters/14,977 feet), and enjoy the breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. Descend back to Saddle Hut for a rest and lunch.
Continue trekking down to Miriakamba Hut, where you will spend the night.
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest back to Momela Gate. Say goodbye to your guide and porters and receive your certificate of achievement for conquering Mount Meru.
Transfer back to Arusha, where you can relax and celebrate your successful trek.
